About

Sports Medicine Doctor

MB BS FACSEP

Jonathon is a Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician with a wide range of experience working with elite athletes and the general public. He is currently the State Medical Officer for the WA Men’s Cricket program and has held roles as head doctor at the Fremantle Dockers (2020-2022) and Perth Glory (2019-2020). He is an ex-Australian hockey player and was a Kookaburra for 4 years between 2009-2012, playing hockey internationally throughout Europe and Asia. His roles in elite sport, as a doctor and athlete, have helped shaped his management of athletes in high pressure situations and have also transferred to his approach to maximising performance in all his patients.

He is a firm believer that exercise is the best drug and the transformative power of regular activity in improving the physical and mental health of his patients. He works closely with GPs, physiotherapists, surgeons, podiatrists, osteopaths, chiropractors, psychologists, dieticians and occupational therapists to manage musculoskeletal issues with a holistic approach. At present, Jonathon also performs a variety of ultrasound guided injectable therapies that help to keep patients exercising, including but not limited to- cortisone, hyaluronic acid, PRP, cellular matrix, prolotherapy and botox injections.

Jonathon consults out of Sports Medicine South Perth on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays and rooms in Mt Claremont on Thursdays. He also consults out of rooms in Dunsborough every second month to service the Southwest region. He is able to provide telehealth services and works hard to make sure his patients from the country are able to minimise travel time and follow-up via telehealth if appropriate. Please contact us if you have any queries for Dr Charlesworth regarding his services or availability.
